The brown bear is the biggest predator in our country. Male bears are bigger than female ones and have bigger heads. The weight of some male bears reaches to 350 kg, in some cases even more.
In Bulgaria brown bears are found in the Middle Balkan Mountain Range, Rila, Pirin, Western and Middle Rhodopes.
Their number in Bulgaria is about 800. They are hunted from high seat over bait.
In Bulgaria there are approximately 800 bears. The hunting district of no less than 20 000 hectares lies in central Bulgaria around 3 hours drive from Sofia's airport. It is a very beautiful hilly landscape-some 500-1.300 m above sea level. The method of hunting is over bait in spring and autumn.
The hunting licences are limited and it is necessary to book quite in advance - at the end of January at the latest.
It is necessary to preview 5-6 hunting days even if sometimes the bear may be seen the first night as it happened one time. In this case you may interrupt the stay or continue hunting wild boars, muflons, fallow deers, red deers and other species in the hunting area.
