Bulgaria is one of the best places for lovers of woodcock hunting who choose it as a destination for the whole wintering period. The diversity of the territories and their vegetation offer the queen of the forest the best climatic conditions and a great school for training dogs.

It is a hilly mountain near the Black Sea and the terrain is not rough, but rather easy, with small woods, gullies and meadows. The diversity of the area means that the bush is not so compact and inaccessible and this allows excellent visibility in the woods for both the wild and the hunter himself and the woodcock finds the ideal condition in any climatic situation. One day you can hunt in pine forests along the Black Sea (Mediterranean scrub type), another day you can move higher (Italian Apennine type). One thing that distinguishes Bulgaria from other very rocky countries is the conformity of our very humid forests with soft soil suitable for woodcock and pleasant for walking. Bulgaria is geographically located on one of the best migration routes for this animal. For this reason we can guarantee beautiful days with many woodcock encounters - on average 15-20 daily encounters per hunter. In the best times and with good dogs you can see many more.

Organisation:

Please let us know about your exact travel dates and requirements in advance. We will acquire the necessary hunting permit for you. You can import your firearms and munitions without any difficulty only with a permit for the export of guns and cartridges.

Insurance:

Unfortunately, we cannot accept any liability for losses, injuries, accidents or delays. Therefore, we would advise you to take out the appropriate insurance to cover these risks before travelling.


Weapons:

The most frequently used guns have barrels ranging from 60 to 66 cm. in length. Wider chokes are used (|||||, ||||) as well as rifled barrels which give the bird shot a rotating motion allowing for better coverage of the target and a higher chance of hitting it. The shot itself must be intuitive. The rounds should range between № 7 and № 11; lately combined rounds are № 7/8, № 8/9 №9/10, because the heavier pellets push the lighter ones, giving the hunter a wider spread. The woodcock is a small and fragile bird and a small number of pellets are enough to take it down.
